Police State Ireland: (Bonus Content — Extracts from Diary of a Dissenter, w/e 24/11/23)
At the end of a calamitous and seismic week, some pertinent extracts from my diary. As the darkness encroaches, let us speak our minds while we still have the legal capacity and freedom to do so.
North of North Korea
Do not make the mistake of looking out your window at the green fields or the rolling hills or the misty woodlands of Ireland and imagining that such horrors could not occur in such a beautiful place.
MONDAY
There is a new documentary by Dinesh D’Souza, primarily directed at Americans, but which I believe every Irish person who is concerned about what’s happening to their country ought to watch with the utmost attention. It is called Police State, and relates not to China or North Korea, but to the United States under the rule of the Deep State — the Democratic Party at war with the American people — and describes the post-Obama reality of freedom and democracy in that once great but now benighted country.
D’Souza is an Indian immigrant to America who, grateful for the gifts he has received since he arrived there in the late 1970s, is determined to give back to his adopted country a dose of truth-telling that he hopes will rouse it from its current slumber.
The documentary is close to two hours long, but worth every moment. Essentially it tells of the insidious expansion of the attentions and nets of US intelligence and security services since ‘9/11’, into areas previously thought of as fundamental to the protection and furtherance of democratic freedoms, but now officially regarded as ‘domestic terrorism’ and treated accordingly. These new areas of peril for the alert citizen include opposition to Government policies, MAGA/Trump loyalties, pro-life activism, questioning of LGBTQP agendas, and an expanding menu of perspectives on public matters that cause displeasure to the Democratic Party in power. The documentary is chilling and sobering, not least because, as will be clear to any Irish person who has been paying attention, the same thinking and inclinations have been present at the centre of Irish official affairs going back to the autogolpe of 2011, when the then Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, pledged his ideological troth to then US president, Barack Hussein Obama, by publicly appearing to plagiarise some lines from his 2008 acceptance speech on election as US president, which at the time appeared utterly incongruous to the Irish situation, but now sound very ominous indeed. ‘Those who say,’ intoned Kenny, ‘that the dreams of our ancestors can never be fulfilled, they have their answer here today!’ His meaning has been rendered clear by more recent events: Ireland was henceforth to be a vassal state of the US — at least for those periods when being run by the Democratic Party and, in the occasional caesurae in which this idyll would be in abeyance, to maintain fealty to the ideologies implicit in that relationship. The centremost of these ideologies was open borders, the instrument by which the Democratic Party has been intent upon managing its own slow-motion autogolpe, essentially importing an alternative electorate (or, as the Americans; say, ‘an alternate electorate’), by which to render its rule over America permanent and irreversible, a strategy now being pursued with venom and determination by the Big Beasts of Irish politics, the eff ’n’ effers, the eff ’n’ blueshirts, and the effin’ sinners (phonetically ‘shinners’).
From 2004, refugees and asylum seekers in Ireland were permitted to vote in local elections. It is now (conservatively) estimated that Ireland has taken in roughly 1.5 million ‘refugees’, ‘asylum seekers’ and other outsiders in the intervening period, ensuring that aliens now amount to roughly 30 per cent of the overall population. At a conservative estimate — and noting especially the age-profile of migrants — it is likely that up to a million of those would be entitled to vote. Were this dispensation to apply in a general election (the next major phase of the permanent autogolpe), we might find out afterwards that up to one-third of the electorate had been non-natives. To put these figures in electoral perspective — using round figures — some 1.9 million people voted in the 2002 general election, two million in 2011, and 2.1 million in 2020. The general elections after next might have a turnout of three million, which would be enough to commandeer a quarter or more of the seats in Dail Éireann.
This is a central part of the agenda of replacement currently being pursued: to disenfranchise the native population and render the Irish people unable to affect the course of future events in their country. The plan is to create what will have the outward appearance of a functioning democracy, but will in reality be a one-party state, where only the name over the door will intermittently change. And note, too, D’Souza’s exposition of an even more sinister ancillary aspect of this programme: the trafficking of children to be sexually abused and left spiritually or literally dead, by the kind of perverts who now have the most powerful institutions of our democracies on speed-dial.
Although specific to recent events in American politics, this documentary requires to be closely watched by Irish people in the knowledge that, for all intents and purposes, Ireland is now an ideological satellite of the United States. To take just one example, the Health (Termination of Pregnancy Services (Safe Access Zones) 2023 was recently passed by a vote in Dáil Éireann by 117 votes to 10, a ratio way out of sync with the views of the public on such matters. This law is a copycat version of the US Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE), which is now being used to pursue pro-life activists who as much as bless themselves passing an abortion clinic.
The ancient U2 chant from ‘Bullet the Blue Sky’ — ‘Outside it’s America’ — requires to be modified to ‘Inside it’s America . . . Everywhere it’s America’, which no longer means what it did — freedom first and last — but an emerging dispensation plausibly describable as ‘north of North Korea.’ Bizarre, surreal as it has seemed, the last decade has seen, right across the West, a rapid escalation of the kind of thinking and action depicted in Police State, whereby innocent people are targeted, prosecuted and, in some cases, jailed for long periods (10, 20 years) for simply exercising their right to free speech on issues that the state or government adopts a different position. Mothers who object to a school paid for with their tax dollars imposing queer or paedophile filth on their children are dragged away in chains by gangs of heavily-armed FBI agents who have battered down their front doors at dawn. This is the cost of what we call Woke, though in reality the prescribed agenda of the Combine, imposed for the precise purpose of destroying democracy and freedom and reducing the former free West to, as one voice in the documentary puts it, ‘China, plus drag queens.’
What this has already ‘achieved’ in America is the replacement of the rule of law by rule of terror, a dispensation in which the majority are terrified of dissenting in even the slightest degree for fear of bringing down the full force of state violence and corruption on their heads. Of course — to briefly put back on my most well-worn record — none of this would be possible had the American media not opted, as has the Irish media, to accept the setaside business model, whereby they are so handsomely paid for telling lies there is no longer any percentage in telling the truth. As a result, the media is now an intrinsic element of the emerging police states of the West, whereby they are willing not merely to ignore the kinds of abuses that were once the very bread-and-butter of investigative journalism, but to actively cooperate with the ‘authorities’ in demonising and smearing those who continue to mount opposition to governmental actions of any kind (the ‘fahr right,’ ‘white supremacists,’ ‘spreaders of disinformation,’ et cetera). Hence, the West’s new ‘axis of evil’ — supranational organisations and their pseudo-leaders; Deep State actors; bought-and-paid-for scientists, doctors and politicians; and of course the ubiquitous ‘Nua Teo’ (“PR Company From Hell’) — all provided with daily air-cover by the journaliars, who torch, for the sake of one more payday, the proud legacy of ethical journalism they inherited from the giants who came before.
This is the context and meaning whereby we need to see ostensibly comical turns like the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), which published yet another ludicrous report about the ‘far right’ this week. It has the incongruous title, Uisce Faoi Thalamh, which means, literally, ‘underground water,’ but is generally used metaphorically to describe subterranean rumblings, or activities not detectable above ground, generally in the context of conspiracies or intrigue.
I feature briefly in the report, which is, in the context I have described, both flattering and alarming. Being smarter than these people does not mean you are safe from them. They have access to the full panoply of the people’s power, usurped and adapted to the nefarious and malicious agendas of politicians and other state actors, which embrace lying to protect the perpetrators of theft, filth, rape, treason and child murder and, in the end, the supplanting of democracy, freedom and the rule of law with the project known as The Great Reset, which aims to achieve the total subjugation and enslavement of the human race.
I enjoy playing with such pondlife, but I do not underestimate their capacity for evildoing. When I was approached on behalf of the ISD some months ago for a comment concerning whether I wished to respond to a reference to be made to me in their report, I responded — somewhat satirically — as follows:
Just a brief note to alert you that the sentence ‘You [this refers to me, JW] are a former journalist who has taken to promoting conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and other topics’ contains multiple misstatements and is in fact itself a rather typical example of misinformation/disinformation. Should you wish to represent me correctly you might state the following: John Waters is a writer whose work can be found at johnwaters.substack.com. This will enable your readers to make up their own minds.
A representative of the ISD responded that they would include this paragraph in their report, an undertaking they have duly honoured.
For what it is worth, you can read the full ISD report here, though I do not recommend it.
Note also the compliant reporting of this nonsense by the setaside media, this being the coverage of the ISD report in the scummy Indo.
While I find it a trifle flattering to be included in such a comical composition, I have to warn people that it is a mistake to regard such reports — however incompetent, ignorant or ridiculous — as occasions of frivolity. The role of the ISD is to prepare the ground for the kind of police state that Dinesh D’Souza describes. Their efforts may be pathetic, but they are adequate to the demands of a very low bar. If you doubt this, consider that, in his film, D’Souza tells the story of a young man who did no more than walk through the Capitol building in Washington DC, on January 6th 2021, but ended up hanging himself because of the viciousness and unreason of state actors —who knew they were lying — claiming he was involved in an insurrection.
I do not take these people lightly. They may be stupid. They may be ideologically purblind. They may be in it for the money. But, by virtue of operating to supply ammunition to state agencies which are in collusion to cover up their own crimes, they need but construct a flimsy skeleton of pseudo-facts to satisfy a rotting system whose primary purpose is to impose silence on its critics and questioners. In other words, lies that might be harmless on the desk of a powerless actor may become lethal when the full brunt of state violence can be applied to their prosecution.
The content of the ISD report, which is of a sub-Junior Cert level throughout, assumes that the intelligence of its audience will be at least as low as that of its author(s). Much of the commentary concerns what is termed ‘the Irish mis- and disinformation eco system’, by which they mean criticism of Government policy, mostly on social media, and particularly on Twitter, now X.
Consider, in the light of what we now know for certain about the Ukraine war, the following paragraph with its aura of implied righteousness on behalf of those governments and supranational bodies that blindly drove a senseless war with a preordained outcome, in which 400,000 Ukrainians were killed, only to return the relations between the sides to where they were when it all started — with Ukraine and Russia now forced to hammer out a deal which will all but certainly result in the partitioning of Ukraine, with the greater part of the territory ending up in Russia. This was pretty much precisly what the guerrilla media were predicting from late February 2022. An infinitely better deal could have been hammered out 20 months ago, had Western leaders been listening to the kinds of voices coming under attack here from the ISD:
The immediate unified outrage expressed by Western governments and institutions against the Russian invasion instantly compelled anti-establishment and mis- and/or disinformation groups and actors to take an opposing view. Early reactions contained a mixture of narratives parroting Kremlin talking points about alleged neo-Nazi forces killing ethnic Russians in Ukraine. This was accompanied by criticism of Western double standards and the difference in the outrage expressed towards the invasion of Ukraine and perceived silence on other injustices, in particular human rights abuses in Palestine.
No evidence is proffered to support any of the claims being made, which, insofar as they can be said to exhibit any coherence, are entirely wrong-headed. It is now almost universally accepted that Ukraine was and remains a haven of Nazi activity. The veracity of the statements made here is simply assumed, on the basis, presumably, of their constant reiteration over many months by corrupt setaside media, and their consequent institutionalisation as unassailable fact on the dominant narrative of the West. In truth, these arguments now read like an obscene burlesque of the fate of the Ukrainian people, being rehearsed one more time on the assumption that the audience they are directed at, being dependent still on the same feed of lies, will know no better. But between deadline day and publication day, the final score became known: Ukraine had lost; Russian had won — as the ‘conspiracy theorists’ had been saying from the beginning.
The truth is that, as with the Covid and ‘vaccine’ sagas, the ‘conspiracists’ were much, much closer to the truth of what was happening than the official narrative promoted by the setaside media. The chief sources of misinformation and disinformations over the past 45 months have been governments and media, health authorities, scientists and PR companies working for these amoral cartels.
But let us beware of complacency on the basis of the idiocy and incompetence of the ISD and its minions. If you think the Irish people are too smart to be taken in by lies like these, you haven’t been paying attention. And if you think that a police state such as Dinesh D’Souza describes could never happen here — or, indeed, wherever you may be — well that’s what the Yanks thought. Do not make the mistake of looking out your window at the green fields or the rolling hills or the misty woodlands of Ireland and imagining that such horrors could not occur in such a beautiful place: They have happened in other beautiful places, and left the fields and woodlands soaked in blood.
It is important to stress that the objective of the authorities is not to deal with an actual ‘domestic terrorism’ problem — or indeed ‘far right radicalism’, as it is currently termed in Ireland and other European countries — but to reverse-engineer a climate of omertà in their societies concerning their own record of evildoing.
There isn’t any far right, in any meaningful sense, and still less domestic terrorism — these are merely labels to append to those who dissent from the dictats of the nouveau tyrants who have prospered and grown in confidence since the Covid crime began nearly four years ago. In other words, these smear campaigns are aimed at marginalising and silencing people who imagine themselves to be exercising — in both Europe and America — constitutionally protected freedom of speech. The longer-term objective behind these sinister initiatives is to dispense with all such felt entitlements and expectations, and nurture populations that will be happy with creature comforts and will not aspire to bend their country into a better, more ethical and decent place — that will come, in fact, to regard such matters as none of its business. Hence, a nation of migrants present the optimal scenario for currupt politicians, for such a population will have loyalty to neither land not histrory nor culture nor tradition, but merely to whomever provides the price of the next pair of runners. The aim of such policies is to de-legitimise dissent in a manner that literally smears the dissenter with a paste of pejorative and confusing slogans, so that, under the manipulation of the corrupt media, it becomes almost impossible for the regular citizen to decipher or judge what is true or untrue. Hence, the lies get to be believed, and the truth cast into shadow.

FRIDAY
The lesson that needs to emerge when the events in Dublin over the past 24 hours or so have been autopsied must surely be that this can never happen again. Even before the names of the little children who were attacked and wounded by an alien thug — who has no business being in our country in the first place — must surely be that we need a new plan to make our view clear to each other and the authorities — and in that order. Only by convincing a majority of our people that the urgency we speak of is real will they respond as is necessary to save our country. This is the deeper struggle that is happening, here and now: a struggle, on the one hand, to convince our people that their nation is under existential threat, and that they need to stand up for it. (I do not mean ‘stand up and fight’ — at least not literally. I mean stand on their own feet in the street and make their feelings known in a peaceful but clear manner.) On the other side of the line, some of the most loathsome actors ever to gain power in Ireland are seeking to sell the line that the only problem here is that the existential threat comes from something called ‘the far right’. Thus, Ireland shows itself as speeding down the track to fascism as described by Dinesh D’Souza.
Many of those observing the events of the past few years have been way off in their understanding of the evil facing us — I mean the government and its proxies who, for nearly four years, now have been measuring their jackboots against the faces of the Irish people. Even now, as those who have criticised their policy of, in effect, a borderless Ireland have been vindicated again in the most appalling fashion, they have behaved in the now familiar fashion even before the names of the innocent stabbed in the course of a barbaric attack on children have been released.
Surely it is clear now that there are no depths to which they will not descend? I mean not the attackers, or even the totality of such attackers — for they are beyond reason, and the simple truth is that they never had any business in Ireland in the first place — but the appalling creeps to whom we entrusted our beautiful country. In the face of horror, tribulation, calamity and catastrope, they lie and lie and lie and lie.
It is obvious that few or none of those on the streets of Dublin in the past 12 hours have been genuine patriots, parents or even regular people, for if they were they would have intervened to prevent the drift towards rioting, looting and destruction once they saw it take hold. We understand, then, that the perpetrators were all, or mostly, the paid agents provocateurs of our evil government.
In truth, there was no chance of the aftermath to yesterday’s dreadful attack being other than it has been, and it would probably have been the same or similar in any other city or large town — i.e. explosion of staged rage, puppet-mastered by the Unspeakable Creeps and their amoral proxies, and designed to arrest the natural gut response of the Irish people, thereby flipping the moral configurations sufficiently for the true evildoers to make good their escape. The evidence this morning indicated this initiative had succeeded: Everyone was talking about the destruction of property in Dublin; almost no one was any longer mentioning the dark interloper who had sought to kill an Irishwoman and three Irish children. We were no longer hearing words of sympathy for the victims, but many about the destruction of corporate property in Dublin and the ‘heroic’ women who had rushed to the aid of the perpetrator to protect him from what one of the women implied was the potential ‘savagery’ of passers-by who sought to prevent him escaping. I do not say that this entire event was what is termed a false flag, but I have certainly noted innumerable signs of scripting in the events that followed.
It is obvious that what happened in Dublin last evening was the result of a psychological operation designed to manipulate and short-circuit the natural anger of Irish people to the idea of children being stabbed in the street of their capital city in broad daylight, by a man who has no business being there in the first place. The signs are all there: pictures of lines of squad cars, open and unattended, in parking bays; a video that’s doing the rounds of a man coming upon and challenging members of An Garda Siochána (Guardian of the Peace!!) obligingly breaking the plate windows of department stores so the looters can do their thing; the strange, stilted and jargon-laden descriptions of certain witnesses, who speak more like police officers giving evidence in court than untutored bystanders asked to describe what they saw.
The official response was scripted also: further menaces from the appalling leader of the Irish Government, Varadkar, speaking as though the appointed agent of an occupying power as he informed the Irish people that they could expect to be permanently and totally silenced on account of an episode entirely arranged by his own proxies. And if anyone doubts that the Irish authorities would not stoop to such dirty tricks, then please read this account I wrote of an alleged incident of arson by an ‘anti-vaxxer,’ on New Year’s Eve, 2020:
I had a call yesterday evening from a friend, a well-intentioned and passionate lover of Ireland, who told me that the people were about to take to the streets against the evils that have been perpetrated against them, and against the vile (an anagram of ‘evil’ mind) orchestrators of same. The worm was turning, he said. I do not like to be constantly throwing cold water, so all I said was, ‘I hope you’re right.’ I have watched too long and too sorrowfully the infiltration of the Resistance and its attempts at public demonstration. Each time it’s the same: the proxies of the ‘authorities’ find some hungry lowlifes and slip them a nifty or two per man to go and pretend to be patriots. In many instances, these lowlifes are the same people who were togging out for Rentifa in the early days of the lockdown, to intimidate people out of making their feelings known.
Next time I looked, I saw a video of Guardstapo Commissioner, Drew Harass, singing his party piece about ‘the ideology of the far right.’
If anything, otherwise smart people on our side — people of unquestionable integrity — actually underestimate the extent of the evil that confronts us. This is largely because they refuse to understand it. They think, first and foremost, in terms of their ‘right to protest,’ which is now a lethal understanding in as far as protecting the future of our country is concerned. They still think also, in the old way, of the Guardstapo as being ‘our neighbours, brothers and sisters,’ and in this they could not be more wrong. Those among the force who may once have been ‘our neighbours, brothers and sisters,’ are on sick leave or have already departed the force because of their inability to serve under its present demonic leadership. Remember that, just a few weeks ago, Commissioner Harass received a confidence vote of 1.3 per cent from the force he is supposed to ‘lead.’
It is easy to underestimate a man like Harass on account of his obvious lack of manly, or even human, qualities. But one thing we should not underestimate is his capacity for wickedness. This man hates Ireland and everything she represents. He works, first and last, for the British Crown, and his mission is to leave Ireland in rubble so it can be reduced to a slave colony to contain whatever is left of the Irish population, until that population dies out.
Why do our patriots continue making the same mistake? They either leave the streets to the lowlifes or else adopt their methods, kicking up a row when what is required is a calm and measured statement of Irish sovereignty and self-belief. Yesterday, I watched in dismay but not surprise as the supposed demonstrators on behalf of injured children started to stomp on squad cars, burn trams and buses and loot the stores they were able to access. This is what was supposed to happen, precisely what the Creeps ‘ordered.’. I do not know if any, or how many, of those involved were innocents who went there with good intentions and got caught up in the mob mentality — a factor built into the psy-op strategy. This is a danger warned about many times, but nobody has been listening. This issue has been left to fester and has therefore given the corrupt Regime an easy instrument by which to besmirch the only opposition now remaining in the ruins of our former democracy. This problem is down to the model of public protest that emerged in the middle of 2020 — loud, raucous and indulgent of independent modes of protest, which is much too easy to infiltrate and manipulate — as clearly occurred on this occasion. Thus, Varadkreep was able to do his usual sleazy thing and emerge to claim that the Irish people are more afraid of the [non-existent] 'far right' than of crazed jihadists toting knives or worse.
Exactly two years ago, I wrote here:
I had reservations from early on in the Covid circus about the benefits of tempting full frontal public confrontations by engaging in conventional shout-and-strum protests in public. I have always had a preference for quiet, even silent protests, like the Sentinelle in Piedi (Standing Sentinels), a movement that erupted in Italy during the public controversy that attended the introduction of civil unions five years ago. I spoke at a number of their public gatherings in Milan, Turin and elsewhere, in the wake of the appalling Irish experience of being bullied into vandalising our Constitution by introducing a legally adulterating provision for ‘gay marriage’.
The Standing Sentinels were a kind of spontaneous response to the changing tactics of power . . . Their inspirations included the German ‘White Rose’ anti-Nazi resistance group, as well as similar groups active in Eastern Europe during the Communist era. This informal movement — comprising men and women, young and old, students and grandparents, families and individuals — took to Italian streets to defend the ecology of family life, assembling in piazzas across the country, each protestor silently standing there reading from a book. Participants were arranged in the form of a checkerboard, one metre away from each other. They would gather, maybe a thousand at a time, silently reading to themselves as though standing on a tube train. Their goal — they were random amalgams of individuals, not an association — was to draw the attention of public opinion to the fact that there was an ongoing attack — at the levels of politics, media, education and law — against the human being and the human project as expressed in legal protections and guarantees. Through their simple presence — regularly ignored if not derided or insulted by the mainstream — the Sentinels showed that it was possible, in spite of encroaching official tyranny and gamesmanship, to rebel and bear witness to the truth in public. Authorities don't know how to handle quietude.
My idea had a single variation from the Italian model: The book to be read would always be The Irish Constitution, 1937. At the end, perhaps, the entire gathering might read Articles 40-44 — the Irish ‘Bill of Rights’ — in unison. I never succeeded in convincing even a significant minority of dissenters that this was a good idea, and latterly I have begun to suspect why: Some of the ‘dissidents’ were State plants, whose instructions were to cause as much trouble and create the most unfavourable impression as they could manage so as to discredit the anti-lockdown protest. I became certain of this at a demo outside RTÉ in late August last year [2020], when I observed a couple of people whose instincts we had trusted start to kick up at the main door of the RTÉ building, banging the perspex windows and shouting obscenities at the staff members inside. I noted the same tendency in numerous subsequent protests also, and I have several times spoken to some of those involved requesting that they cool it, but to no avail. This, and the utter absence of measured political or philosophical content of the speeches, has convinced me that these people have emerged not out of some private passion for Ireland, but because they were invited by someone in authority to do the State some underhanded service.
This remains true, for all that such pleas have gone unheard. Unless such a course is adopted, all future obscenities perpetrated by interlopers in our country — and there will be many unless we lance this boil once and for all — will be followed by similar reactions. This is what the vile authorities wish for, what they plan for, and what they are succeeding in implementing, time after time. Before long, there will be no freedoms left for any native Irish person to exercise. None of this is intended to extend even a morsel of credit to the bleating of cowardly would-be virtue-signallers who seek to bury three innocent children alive in their anxiety to protect the narrative that they have stupidly supported and which they now, for all their bluster, see is destroying the fabric of their country. They would like to be able to stop it but they lack the courage to admit they were wrong, and so the Government’s false flag event came just in time to spare their blushes.
My point is purely that, in dealing with the scum we must deal with, we need to be as Caesar’s wife. We need to constuct a model of public protest that is not merely beyond reproach, but also beyond manipulation, inflitration or mimickry, and that, in the event of some malevolent interloper seeking to make it appear criminal, that individual will instantly reveal himself for what he is.
Accordingly, leaving aside for a moment the manifest criminality that has created this situation, we need a rethink so as to deny the Unspeakable Creeps any further easy opportunities. We need a different vision if we are to have any serious chance of exposing the evildoing of our ‘leaders’ to the world. We need to think of our streets as sacred spaces, in which each man and woman is called upon to be dignified and orderly in his/her bravery, and behave in a manner befitting the calling to be an Irish patriot in a long line of unequalled heroes. Only in this way will the evil of the state and its forces become clearly visible to the world, which is now watching what is happening in our dear land as it has not for a very long time.
The right to protest their government's actions is a fundamental entitlement of every citizen. It is not in the gift of governments to grant or deny it — unless the law is being broken. The point is that we ought not to make it easier for the Creeps to convince the public that breaches of the law have occurred. We are in a global war of perception — never before had we such an opportunity to shame in the eyes of the international community the thugs and gangsters who have taken control of our country. Let's make it hard for them to insulate themselves against this moral power, the sole one that lies within our grasp by which to marshal against their monopoly on state violence. Of course — it almost goes without saying — the Creeps and their proxies orchestrated the 'far right' element of the protest. But they would not have been able to do so had a different protocol of protest been in operation. I can describe this lamentable outcome with a high degree of confidence because, within minutes of getting off a plane in Dublin Airport on Friday night, I was attacked by a crazed establishment attack dog claiming that I was responsible for the riots of Thursday night, even though I had been out of the country for the previous ten days! Thus, it became crystal-clear to me that what ought to have been a turning point had been spun 360 degrees.
The issue is not necessarily civility, still less politeness, but the challenge of finding ways and means to deny the 'authorities' the capacity to seize an advantage by virtue of acts by anyone claiming to protest in the name of decency and freedom of — Iconic words!! — 'cowardice, inhumanity or rapine.' Anyone remember that? There was a reason why the leaders of 1916 put that in their Proclamation — precisely to ensure that, when the fate of Ireland and her freedom was in the mix, the moral high ground would at all times be claimed by the representatives of truth and honour, and not yielded to the liars, tyrants and evil-doers who are the sole enemies of Ireland now:
We place the cause of the Irish Republic under the protection of the Most High God, Whose blessing we invoke upon our arms, and we pray that no one who serves that cause will dishonour it by cowardice, inhumanity, or rapine. In this supreme hour the Irish nation must, by its valour and discipline, and by the readiness of its children to sacrifice themselves for the common good, prove itself worthy of the august destiny to which it is called.
