Ink Brothers! Back on The Delingpod
'The human mind is such a complex instrument that it surpasses its own capacity to understand itself.'

Brothers in Ethical Ink
James Delingpole and I exhibit many differences, cultural and otherwise, but we also have a great deal in common. He is English; I am Irish. He is a decade younger than me. We are both former journalists, who nowadays share a repugnance of the word ‘journalist.’ We cut our teeth writing about rock ’n’ roll, and working for ‘alternative’ magazines. We both proudly made a living for many years within the ‘liberal’ media, until we woke up one morning in 2020 to realise that all that, if it had been real at all, had come to an end.
We also, at different times and in differing circumstances, ‘found’ God — I, under the lash of alcoholism, in my 40s; he, in the throes of the spiritual battle against the Covid coup of the past 43 months.
James was, and is, a journalistic hero of mine, arising from his articles in The Spectator when it was a great magazine as opposed to, as now, a middling one.
As a witness-in-words, James is fearless, brilliant and very funny. He writes like a Laureate of Angels, but is not content to simply adorn pages. He is driven by a fierce conviction that manifests in his writing about every war and battle he volunteers to engage in. His interviews with awakened people over the course of the Covid crime and the subsequent wickedness, have consistently been shafts of light in a darkening time. Although characterising himself as a ‘libertarian conservative,’ he is, of course, also a classical liberal in that he argues and fights for liberty in the things that matter, at all times.
Now, in the throes of this potentially terminal spiritual war, he and I find ourselves brothers in what remains of ethical ink on these islands. Contemplating the way our paths have converged in this War For the Soul of Man, I think of James as one of the lost brothers (maybe five of them!) from whom I was separated at birth. We agree upon much, but have nuanced differences, both of interpretation and strategy.
This is our second video exchange of these past 43 tumultuous months, conversations in which we have opened up the nightmare we found ourselves inhabiting, and were impelled to bring to it some sense and laughter.
Unlike many conversations, it is not possible to say of one with James that it is ‘about this’ or ‘about that.’ In a way, it is about everything — identifying what we have lost and what we can hope to regain; what has been true and what has been foisted upon us as part of the Big Lie; what we have learned and what we have overlooked or all but forgotten — to our great cost.
