From ‘First Things’ : Jostling for the AI Toggle-Switch
'Henry Kissinger is . . . Henry Kissinger.'
The determined march of AI will change the majority of human lives beyond all recognition, eliminating most human work, creating a form of supra-intelligence to which humans may rapidly become subject on terms lacking accountability or transparency, and essentially demoting humanity to the role of second most intelligent ‘species’ on the planet. The questions concerning what is to be done, and who will have control of the toggle-switch, are becoming urgent. The entities which have recently brought the world to the throes of terror and tyranny are jockeying for position. Big Tech already controls the world via the internet, through data harvesting, intimate surveillance, and censorship. Now it moves toward the final stage: the unity of humans and machine, but not on the terms of the human. Instead, as usual, the plan is for things to be handled by placing the well-placed few over the befogged many, in the name of progress. A new book lays bare what’s afoot, though not intentionally. We should beware.
