2 General Election post-mortems, Dec. 2nd
‘There would be nothing more chilling for the Government, I think, than a thousand people standing outside Government Buildings for four hours — standing there, saying nothing.’
‘Attraction’ — The Missing Ingredient?
‘There’ no question about it, it seems to me, that the reason [for the slump in Sinn Féin’s vote] is the “immigration issue” — what is called “the immigration issue”. Of course, we have to be clear, first of all: it is not an immigration issue. That is not what is happening. It is a coercive imposition of aliens on communities. It is people-trafficking. They say, “Oh, they’re anti-immigration!”. No!! They’re against criminality.’
In a sentence, the message and outcome of the 2024 Irish General Election was an unadorned request for the same again, please.
After nearly five years of governmental destruction, cruelty, nastiness and hostility towards the Irish People, the electorate left its collective home in the rain last Friday to vote back into power virtually all the monsters and tyrants who had been destroying their country and treating them with contempt for 53 months. The two senior-partner parties in the coalition which had ruled Ireland in jackboots since June 2020 were returned with their support more or less intact. Parties of ‘opposition’ who had failed to oppose a single significant plank of that government’s programme of destruction and demoralisation increased their votes, even if only relatively or marginally. Those candidates who had opposed the government on the streets and from their alternative media platforms received mainly derisory support, with none getting elected.
Why? Is it possible to understand this extraordinary non-event.
In the two conversations linked below, conducted on Monday, December 2nd, I seek to tease out the myriad questions arising from it with two blood-brother stalwarts of the alternative media: Gerry O’Neill of The West’s Awake (The Scholar Gypsies), and Rick Munn (sometime of TNT Radio) whose new channel is NoRisk NoReward Media.
